Privacy Policy

1. Personal information we collect

Information you provide to us

• account and profile details, such as your name, email address and profile image, including where these are shared by a third-party sign-in service you choose to use;
• information you give us when you contact support or send feedback;
• your preferences and settings;
• information you submit while using the Services, such as study-plan settings;
• where you buy a paid Service, transaction-related information such as an order reference, payment reference, amount, status and date. Card, UPI and bank credentials are entered with our payment service provider and do not reach us.

Information generated through your use

• your study activity and progress, including which questions you have marked as read or confident, whether an answer was correct, the option chosen, time spent and number of attempts;
• review-scheduling information used by the spaced-repetition feature;
• how you interact with features of the Platform;
• technical information about your device, browser and connection, and session and usage information, collected automatically when you use the Platform.

Information from third parties

If you choose to sign in through, or connect, a third-party authentication or integrated service, we receive basic account information from that service as permitted by your settings with it. We request only the information needed to create and operate your account.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence, marksheets or admit cards, and there is no field in which to upload one. We do not collect precise location data or your contacts, we do not serve advertising, and we do not sell personal information.

2. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

• create, operate and secure your account;
• provide the Services and personalise your preparation and study experience;
• maintain your progress, review schedule and study plan across your devices;
• process payments and manage access to paid Services;
• improve, develop and troubleshoot features, and understand how the Platform is used through analytics and product research;
• provide support and respond to your requests, complaints and disputes;
• detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse, security incidents and technical issues;
• send you service-related communications, and marketing communications only where you have opted in;
• comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms of Use; and
• carry out other legitimate business operations consistent with this Policy.

Where the law requires consent for a particular use, we rely on your consent and you may withdraw it as described in Section 7.

3. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal information. We share it only as needed for the purposes above, with the following categories of recipients, and in accordance with applicable law:

• authentication and sign-in providers;
• cloud, hosting and infrastructure providers;
• analytics and technology service providers;
• payment service providers, where you make a purchase;
• professional advisers, such as legal, accounting and audit advisers;
• business partners, where a Service is provided together with them and you have been told so;
• government, regulatory, law-enforcement or judicial authorities, where required by law or to protect rights, safety and property;
• parties to a corporate restructuring, acquisition, financing, merger or transfer of assets, subject to this Policy continuing to apply; and
• any other party you authorise.

Our service providers are permitted to process personal information only on our instructions and under confidentiality and data-protection obligations.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies, local and device storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, save your study progress, measure usage through analytics, keep the Platform secure and provide the Services. Study progress is also saved in your browser so the Platform works without an account.

You can manage or clear cookies and local storage through your browser or device settings. Some parts of the Platform may not work properly if you do.

5. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed:

• to provide the Services to you;
• for legitimate business purposes, such as analytics, security and improving the Platform;
• to comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations;
• to prevent fraud and abuse; and
• to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

When personal information is no longer required, we delete it or anonymise it in accordance with applicable law and our retention practices. Some records, such as those relating to payments, are kept for the minimum periods that tax and accounting law requires even after a deletion request.

6. Security

We maintain reasonable administrative, organisational and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss, destruction or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a personal-data breach occurs, we will act in accordance with applicable law, including any notification obligations.

7. Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the rules under it, you may:

• ask for access to, and information about, the personal information we hold about you;
• ask us to correct or complete inaccurate or incomplete information, or update it;
• ask us to erase personal information, where applicable;
• withdraw consent where our processing is based on consent, which will not affect processing already carried out;
• nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity, where the law provides for this; and
• raise a grievance about how we handle your personal information.

To make a request, email support@smritipyq.in from the address associated with your account. To ask for deletion, use the subject line “Delete my data”. We will acknowledge within 48 hours and respond within the timelines required by applicable law. You do not have to give a reason. Signing out and clearing your browser data stops further local collection immediately.

8. Children and minors

The Platform is intended for candidates preparing for competitive examinations and is not directed at children. Where a user is a child under applicable law, we process their personal data only with verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian and only as permitted by law, and we do not undertake tracking, behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising directed at children. If you believe a child has provided personal information without the required consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

9. Grievance redressal and privacy contact

If you have a complaint or question about this Policy or how we handle your personal information, contact us at support@smritipyq.in, or by post to Smriti Edtech, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

We acknowledge every grievance within 48 hours and work to resolve it within 30 days, or within any shorter period required by applicable law.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If a change is material, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
