Frequently asked questions

Smriti is a study tool that turns every UPPSC (also written UPPCS) GS previous-year question into a micro-lesson you actually learn from, at your own pace — not just a PDF to download. The questions below answer the objections most people have before they start.

How Smriti is different

The exam-prep market already agrees that previous-year questions are the highest-yield resource you can study. The same coaching sites and edtech platforms that sell courses all repeat the same advice: solve PYQs to learn the examiner’s mindset, spot high-weightage topics, and internalise how questions are framed. They are right.

But they ship PYQs as a static file. The dominant forms are a downloadable PDF of solved papers — from players like Physics Wallah, Testbook, Adda247, Drishti IAS and Sanskriti IAS — or a test-series app where PYQs are a thin slice of a much larger mock-test library. Both deliver the questions and stop at the answer key. None of them teach from the questions, schedule them as retrieval practice, or turn your wrong answers into a personal error log. The advice is sound; the product never closes the loop.

Smriti is built on the opposite assumption: the PYQ corpus is not a supplement to study, it is the curriculum. The differentiator is not that we have the questions — everyone has them — it is that we make the corpus a self-paced teaching and memory system. Learning from PYQs, with feedback, spacing, and error analysis, instead of merely solving PYQs once.

The question is the lesson

Every PYQ becomes a micro-lesson — not a line in an answer key. You see what the examiner was testing, the trap in each wrong option, and the fact or principle that resolves it.

Wrong answers are taught, not just marked

Pick an option and get an option-by-option breakdown of why it is right or wrong, right there next to the question — no hunting through forums, PDFs, or ten browser tabs for someone else's explanation. That is where most of the learning happens.

Memory is engineered, not hoped for

Spaced repetition (FSRS) auto-paces itself to you: each question comes back right before you are about to forget it. Solving once and moving on is the norm; remembering it on exam day is the exception — Smriti closes that gap.

Your mistakes become a pattern

Answer tracking and the Insights dashboard group your errors into repeatable patterns — the topics and question types that actually cost you marks — so revision is aimed, not scattered.

A plan, not just a pile of papers

The study planner schedules PYQ practice against your exam date and daily time, so working through the corpus is self-paced and systematic rather than a folder of PDFs you mean to open.
